Although launched at the end 2013 at the Frankfurt International Motor Show, the Peugeot 308 is still being explored as the new kid in the block.
During its latest workshop, a Peugeot team of experts took the unconventional approach of inviting journalists from all over to inspect the 308 in their highly secure R&D facility in Belchamp. From overviewing the quality procedures to testing the 308 on the racetrack, Peugeot unveiled its unrivalled attention to details, quality and endurance.
Commitment is key, and Peugeot leaves nothing to chance. Interviewing 1.7 million customers from all over the world on 1800 functional characteristics, in an effort to make sure their products are up to customer expectations, is no easy task. Moreover, the stress and quality test on the 308 made us realize the hardship Peugeot technical teams go through in order to prepare the release of every car!
After extensive efforts in value engineering and weight reduction, Peugeot is able to offer the new 308 with 140 kilograms less! And, there has been no compromising on the inside passenger compartment space and the particularly large boot; keeping with customer’s expectations of it being the lightest vehicle in its segment.
Sleek and dynamic, the new PEUGEOT 308 has well-balanced proportions. Pure lines, which follow the engineering structure, create a sturdy appearance and a precise balance between elegance, sportiness and high quality. It is an impressively compact hatchback with a dynamic posture and a spacious interior. Dressed with full chrome window surrounds (present on the higher finish levels), this places the vehicle at a premium level.
The new i-Cockpit consists of four integrated components: a compact steering wheel for intense dynamic sensations, a high-positioned heads-up instrument panel to easily read information without taking the driver’s eyes off the road ahead, an enhanced high center console, and a large 9.7-inch touchscreen for intuitive driving.
The textiles and materials used in the passenger compartment are also of very high quality. In Level 2 models, the steering wheel is trimmed in full-grain leather and incorporates black lacquered and satin chrome inserts. The seats can be specified in a cloth material combining PVC and Alcantara, or with the Nappa leather option.
The driving experience of the new 308 is the result of continuous evolution in chassis development, which has been characterized by an expertise in this area for many years. The new 308 shares this prowess by further enhancing the best combination of ride and handling, greatly enabled through the qualities of the new EMP2 platform.
The repositioning of the components and the reduced height of the new PEUGEOT 308 make it possible to lower the center of gravity by 20 mm. The body stability is improved and it also favours the aerodynamic properties. The EMP2 platform brings new suspension with newly reduced weight.
For the comfort and safety of all, the new PEUGEOT 308 is fitted (as standard or as an option) with a range of innovative equipment: blind spot monitoring, electric handbrake, reversing camera utilizing the large color screen, keyless access and starting, Park Assist function, etc.
The entire innovative design, reduced weight and overhangs, and a lower center of gravity, give the driver a pleasurable ride and handling experience on any road. It is a winning combination of agility, comfort and road holding at a high level.
