Amidst the gloomy days the world’s economics are going through, where car manufacturers are being hit left right and center. The good news is that the Arab world is in some way immune to the dramatic fallout of the crisis. Gulf economies are strong, and life as we know it is only getting better and the automotive sector has never been better.

The Paris Motor Show took place early in October, and many trends were showcased to counter today’s economic uncertainties through eco-friendly technologies and innovations. ArabWheels Publisher Toni Eid was there to report about the happenings, and the star of the show was the hybrid powertrain.

Hybrid seems to be the near future’s most accessible propulsion mode, and Peugeot, was keen to emphasize that by showcasing its hybrid technology on home ground, in addition to other eco-friendly innovations such as start/stop on the 308 range. We had a chat with Jean-Philippe Collin the head of The Prancing Lion who gave us a glimpse into Peugeot’s future in various areas.

We also made the move off our desk to bring you a close look at the Volvo XC60 which features on the cover this month. Toni Eid tests Volvo’s safest car ever, embodying the safety legacy of the Swedish brand, with a twist. Another trip abroad was a dash to the German eastern town of Dresden, where BMW treated our Issam Eid to a lavish 48 hours to emphasize the core of their newly launched 7-series. An overview of the new model is featured with a run down the 3 decades the model has existed and how it has helped shape performance luxury motoring.
