Editorial
February had been a very busy month in the world of cars
with plenty of new releases and launches in preparation for the Geneva Motor
Show, perhaps this year’s best International Motor Show.
Gracing our cover for the March issue is the BMW 5-Series.
This ultimate executive sedan is here to reclaim the segment by a wide margin.
We also drive what seems to be Ford’s game changing sedan.
With an iconic name to boot, the Taurus is a very promising vehicle in a cut throat
segment whose leader, the Toyota Camry, is suffering from a massive global
recall.
Also driven is one of the Taurus’ rivals, the Dodge Charger
in R/T trim, as well as the latest iteration of segment leading CX9 family
servant from Mazda.
As the month that passed was one full of unveilings, we go
over the Mini Countryman and the Kia Sportage, as well as some of the Dubai
Motor Show’s unveilings from late 2009, such as the intimidating Zenvo ST-1,
super fast Brabus GLK V12 and last but not least, the sumptuous Rolls Royce Ghost.
In our Volvo safety segment, we report on the Volvo Safety
Center that is close to culminating its first decade in operation. The VSC has
been making cars safer by crashing them and putting dummies on the line.
The Toyota recall special feature is an ArabWheels first. We
give you the details about the global recall that is causing such a media
frenzy, and threatening to knock the Japanese giant off its mantle. It’s not as
sinister as it seems, just very bad timing and a lack of crisis management capabilities.
Our future car segment on the other hand reviews the GMC
Granite and KIA Ray; both took a bow recently at the Detroit and Chicago Auto
Show respectively.
This month we pay tribute to one of the most respectable
brands in the world, Lancia, the venerated brand from Turin; tracing back its
history both as a company and as a sporting legend.
We hope you enjoy this rich issue, and remember you can
always keep up with us on our blog, You Tube channel and twitter. Visit www.arabwheels.net to get connected.
