Summer, usually, is the most inactive month when it comes to harvesting motor news. However, this year, with the raft of changes taking over in the industry due to the economical prices, we ironically have things to follow up on and write to you about.

The freshest bit of news as this was being written is that the US Supreme Court has confirmed the sale of Chrysler assets to Fiat, and now the all new Chrysler which just emerged form a 42 day stay under bankruptcy protection is a leaner, fitter corporation that along with Fiat’s input should theoretically be more prepared to tackle the road ahead and regain profitability. At its head is Sergio Marchionne, Fiat’s visionary CEO that has plans to make the new super corporation tie-up one of the biggest auto manufacturers in the world, not to mention the cheapest automotive get together in history.

Inversely, and ironically, a week earlier, GM, formerly known as The biggest automaker in the world had filed for bankruptcy protection under the Chapter 11 rule of the U.S bankruptcy code. Meant as a stage to re-align the company, the New GM is set to emerge from bankruptcy within 3 month after it has shed billions of dollars in debts and legally binding contract with suppliers and dealers. The New GM will be headed by Edward Whitacre Jr. who used to be the head of telecom giant AT&T.
Prior to filing for Ch11, GM had sold its European operation (Opel-Vauxhall) to Canada’s Magna Steyr, saving countless jobs in the process, and as soon as it did file, it signed an agreement with Roger Penske to take over the Saturn brand distribution network, and a tentative sale to an unknown Chinese heavy machinery manufacturer was announced for the Hummer Brand.

It is vital to say that GM’s operation outside the US, and most notably retail operation in the Middle East will remain as they are, and in a strange twist, GM vehicles now are the best they have ever been, but sadly the corporation that comes up with them took a step back. Our cover car, the Chevrolet Camaro was the miracle child that was put in play before the economic crisis hit. And we, like thousands of people the world over, are thankful that the Camaro program survived. For one main reason that it is a great car to drive and we are sure to own. Possibly the best GM product money can buy.

On another note, although the industry is still dealing with its plight, we take a look at the brighter side with reviews of some of the nicest cars on the market, as well as test drives with some of the best models currently on the market in their respective segments. We also tackle Volvo’s Flexifuel technology program, and pay our respect to the brand that is now on the brink of extinction: Pontiac.
